In the 2010 National League Championship Series, the San Francisco Giants face the Philadelphia Phillies to compete for a chance to play in the 2010 World Series. The Giants-Phillies playoff series begins on Saturday, October 16, 2010. The winner of the 2010 NLCS will continue on to face the winner of the Yankees-Rangers playoff series and play for the championship.

Interestingly enough, this is the first time the two teams will face off in the postseason even though both teams are original franchises. The Giants strength is run prevention, as both their rotation and bullpen go four-deep with quality. Few teams compare to a top core of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Brian Wilson, Sergio Romo, and Santiago Casilla. They have great strength in their lineup, thanks to rookie standout Buster Posey, the re-energized Pat Burrell, the revitalized Aubrey Huff, and the talented Andres Torres. The Giants appear as though they are ready to win this year, but they have a tough road ahead of them.

The Giants Phillies series comes to San Francisco for Game Three on October 19. There will be a pitching spectacle at AT&T Park with Jonathan Sanchez taking on Cole Hamels. Both these pitchers have remarkable stats, very impressive for the teams’ third starter. Sanchez set a Giants post-season record on October 11 after striking out eleven consecutive Braves hitters. But the Phillies are a better-hitting team than the Giants. The pitcher the Giants will be facing, Cole Hamels, the 2008 World Series MVP who is just as powerful as their hitters, will take the mound against Sanchez. Be ready for an amazing pitcher’s duel in game three.
